The use of discarded objects clearly echoes
the Arte Povera movement of the last
century, while also reflecting the artist’s
enduring fascination with the dialogue
between the old and the new. Vallecilla is
drawn to materials marked by the patina of
time, reanimating them with an inventive,
contemporary edge. His assemblages and
collages favor abstraction unfolding in
layered compositions of color and
unexpected forms.
